I believe that everyone has worth, personal value, and a desire to experience positive mental and physical well-being. Healing comes through our life connections. In therapy, healing comes from working with someone who will offer unconditional acceptance and a safe place to experience emotions. I provide that safe place for you to explore your thoughts and feelings with the integration of my professional experience and research validated therapeutic techniques to provide relief when life stressors and challenges prove difficult.
I have been working in the counseling field for many years but took some time off to provide supportive, medical assistance for a disabled family member. My husband and I live with our two young adult children. We resided in North Carolina early in our marriage, but Georgia has been home to us for over the past 15 years. I love to exercise, read, and spend time with friends and family. While still in high school, I decided to work in the field of counseling due to a deep desire to help others. My goal presently is to promote healing, well-being and encouragement to individuals on their life journey.
My specialties include work with individuals who experience issues such as trauma, anxiety, depression, compulsive behaviors, substance abuse, grief and loss, anger management issues, and life transitional issues, such as marriage, separation, and divorce. I am trained in and offer EMDR therapy for trauma victims. (Watch this video to learn more about EMDR). I also welcome couples and families, assisting them in structuring their relationships to manage conflict successfully while also growing closer. Utilizing the work of John Gottman and Sue Johnson’s Emotionally Focused Therapy, I help couples pay attention to the emotional atmosphere and communication within the relationship to create change. I use a client-centered approach with various treatment modalities to include EMDR, EFT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Behavioral Management Techniques, and Memory Reconsolidation in Trauma Therapy.
