“The most profound personal growth does not happen while reading a book or meditating on a mat. It happens in the throes of conflict—when you are angry, afraid, frustrated. It happens when you are doing the same old thing and you suddenly realize that you have a choice.” –Vironika Tugaleva

My passion is helping people identify and make the changes that lead to meaning and satisfaction in their lives and relationships. I believe that you are the expert on your life, and my role is to provide encouragement, support, and guidance on your journey of growth. I enjoy helping my clients navigate life transitions and relationship issues, as well as manage and cope with symptoms of anxiety, depression, and  various forms of trauma and stress.  I am particularly passionate about working with couples to help them recover a sense of true intimacy and  connection. Additionally,  I specialize in helping men, and recognize the ways that mental and emotional health issues can look different in men. As an African American man, I am passionate about addressing the unique challenges that face BIPOC men.

My work is based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) , as well as other cognitive-behavioral approaches that incorporate mindfulness, acceptance, and compassion. ACT is focused on creating a different relationship with the painful thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations that will show up as part of being a living human being. I will help you get clear about what is important to you and how you want to show up in the world, as well as empower you with the skills to live the life you want to live.

I also use Emotionally Focused Therapy in my work. I have extensive and ongoing training in this attachment-based approach to relieving individual and relationship distress. I believe humans are wired for connection and that profound healing comes from satisfying this essential need. I will help you remove whatever gets in the way of having loving, strong connections with those who matter most.

I have been privileged to work with individuals and families in a variety of helping roles and settings. I have worked as a state social welfare caseworker, an assistant in a state library for the blind and disabled, a respiratory therapist and a medical social worker. I grew up in a military family and was fortunate to be exposed to and learn from a variety of cultures. My experiences have fostered in me a deep appreciation of and respect for the diversity of the human experience.

When I am not working, I enjoy all things that involve good food, friends, and family. I am the proud co-parent of a teenage English Cocker Spaniel and spend a good deal of time spoiling her. I look forward to learning more about you, who and what matters to you, and traveling with you on your journey of hope and healing!
