From Sam:
“The most profound personal growth does not happen while reading a book or meditating on a mat. It happens in the throes of conflict—when you are angry, afraid, frustrated. It happens when you are doing the same old thing and you suddenly realize that you have a choice.” –Vironika Tugaleva
My passion is in helping people identify and make the changes that lead to meaning and fulfillment in their lives. I have been privileged to join with individuals, couples and families in their darkest hours, as they work to find hope and healing. My philosophy of therapy is person-centered and wholistic. I believe that you are the expert on your life, and my role is to provide encouragement, support and guidance on your journey of growth and change. My treatment approach is based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, as well as other behavioral approaches that incorporate mindfulness, acceptance and compassion. My goal is to assist you in figuring out what is important to you and empowering you to do what matters to you.
I have extensive experience in supporting individuals and families that are living with chronic and serious physical illness. I am also passionate about the unique mental health challenges that face BIPOC communities. As both an African American and a person with chronic illness, my expertise in working with these communities is informed by lived experience. I enjoy helping adults and couples across the lifespan navigate life transitions (including caregiving, end of life, grief and loss), relationship issues and symptoms of anxiety and/or depression. As a former respiratory therapist, I intimately understand the unique culture of and challenges that face frontline healthcare workers.
When I am not working, I enjoy all things that involve good food, friends, family and self-care. I am also the proud co-parent of a teenage English Cocker Spaniel. I look forward to learning more about you, what matters to you and traveling with you on your journey of hope and healing!
