Life is full of changes. My dad used to say that the only thing you can really count on in life is that things are going to change. Some of these changes can be wonderful and cause feelings of excitement. Other changes can cause fear, anxiety, depression, or feelings of grief. These reactions are normal and sometimes it’s helpful to have someone to talk to about them. Therapy can normalize and bring relief around life changes, transitions, and losses and even bring the opportunity for growth and transformation in the process.
A little about my background- I have worked in the medical field for over 20 years. I went back to school at the University of Georgia to study social work in 2018. In 2021, while in school, I discovered that I really loved doing counseling and therapy. That’s why I’m here. I love what I do. It has been so exciting and wonderful to help people in a new and dynamic way while drawing on my previous professional and life experience and wisdom.
My specialties include working with clients that have experienced loss and grief, trauma, life transitions, parenting issues, relationship strain and social anxiety. I like to utilize a narrative approach with my clients. There is healing and power in being able to tell your story. Then we will utilize evidenced based interventions that are rooted in theories like cognitive behavioral theory, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness, as well as Emotionally Focused Couple therapy (EFT) to develop coping skills that you can take out into your everyday life. I work from a place of encouragement and positivity so my hope is that you always feel like you have someone in your corner.
Marlynn sees people in our Athens location or via telehealth. She is considered an in-network provider with Aetna, and Blue Cross Blue Shield, and is a Kaiser Affiliated provider.
