Perinatal Mental Health in a Pandemic
According to a recent article in WEBMD (December 2020), there has been a recent increase in anxiety and depression among women during the perinatal period (prenatal and postnatal). It was already estimated that one in seven women experience a perinatal mood disorder after the birth of a child. However, a recent survey by Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston found that from May to August of 2020, 1 in 3 women reported depression. It is assumed that this increase is a result of the COVID-19 health crisis. The good news is that there are effective treatments and resources which offer support to women. Jennifer Boone has received specialized training in Perinatal Mental Health and has particular interest in providing mental health support to women during this important time of life.
